The Senegalese government spearheaded the National Biocarburants Programme (2007–2012), aiming to plant Jatropha across 321,000 hectares nationwide. It was coordinated by the Ministry of Rural Development and ISRA, with rural councils and NGOs involved. The programme ended after 2012 and is not currently operational. The project had other partners but who were to support through knowledge exchange and or processing of the jatropha. they include ISRA (Institut Sénégalais de Recherche Agricole) and rural organizations; ANCR (Association Nationale des Conseillers Ruraux); (Programme de Gestion Durable et Participative des Énergies Traditionnelles et de Substitution); Compagnie Sucrière du Sénégal (CSS)
