The Groupe Blattner Elwyn (GBE), a powerful conglomerate controlled by a US expatriate. Elwyn Blattner built much of his family’s Congolese business empire during the reign of the kleptocratic Mobutu Sese Seko. GBE’s holdings include a bank, an airline and DR Congo’s largest logging company: SIFORCO, which produces a quarter of all the timber harvested in the entire country. One article by Mongabay confirmed the relation between GBE and Safbois, "Other members of the Blattner family are involved in the logging sector via Safbois in Orientale province,” (see source 2)
