The project is financed on a non-recourse project finance basis, with a project cost of circa ZAR2.3 billion ($260 million). The completed power facility can generate enough clean energy to power approximately 80,000 homes. The Jasper project was selected in May 2012 as part of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP) initiated by the South African Department of Energy.
