Comment on former land owner
Before the creation of Mount Cameroon National Park, the land was primarily used for agriculture and the exploitation of forest resources. The Bakweri tribes were the first to settle in the area due to the high fertility of the land, followed by the Wovea people. During the 19th century, the German government took control of the Kamerun protectorate and established plantations, bringing in workers from other parts of Cameroon. After World War I, under British administration, the German plantations were seized, and after Cameroon gained independence in 1961, the land was mostly leased to the Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) and other agro-industrial firms.
