This follows our recent revelations that another major agribusiness company, Dole Philippines, subleased land to grow bananas from a notorious gun dealer accused of using fraud and coercion to gain rights to indigenous land.

Del Monte, Dole, dodgy dealings and bloodshed in Bukidnon – where indigenous organizations have faced threats and attacks for protesting violations of indigenous rights by ranchers doing business with the international ‘agri-giants’. One such rancher is Mayor and former Del Monte Consultant Pablo Lorenzo. Indigenous leader Renato Anglao was murdered after leading some of the protests.

Its presence in the region as a socially responsible company manifests in its focus to total community development through direct interventions in areas of education, environment, housing, water, health and medical care, infrastructure, transportation, safety, hygiene and sanitation, community organizational development, value formation/spirituality, livelihood development, disaster coordination and assistance, to name a few. The company, in partnership with the different stakeholders in the community, is proud of its litany of accomplishments and pioneering programs which has touched the lives of thousands of people over many years. These programs are on-going, as it is enduring and will continue to benefit the people and future generations.

The group(UN) urged Dole Philippines to freeze operations on the land it leases in Bukidnon until an agreement with affected indigenous communities is reached.
