Comment on land area
The rapid population growth of the village among other factors co-produced a scarcity of available farmland which was exacerbated in 2006, by a land concession granted to the Sino-Lao Chilan Rubber Development Company over the period of 50 years and covering 255 ha.
Sino-Lao Chilan Rubber Development Company. The latter move is part of a larger project in the districts of Nambak and Pak Ou in Luang Prabang province using multiple smaller locations for rubber plantations aiming to convert a total of 20,000 ha (McAllister 2015).
Sino-Lao Chilan Rubber Development Company Ltd. (the Sino Company, also known as Jinrun) set up a rubber plantation of 100 ha in 2006 as part of a 7000-ha land concession granted by the provincial authorities in Luang Prabang in 2004.
