Fishing is a traditional activity of women in the region. However, it has become much more difficult for the women of the communities involved in Olam activities to fish in the rivers and small lakes locally called "marigots". The women of the Nanga village, located between the Sotrader and Olam Palm Gabon concessions, were in one of the worst situations described in one of the reports. Pollution of the lakes forces women to travel long distances to find drinking water.
