Comment on investment chain | SUCAF was established in 2003 | Central African law corporation was set up in 2003 with a capital of CFA6,243,460,000 (EUR21,723,985).
According to The Sentryβs investigation, in late 2014, amid political and security upheaval, SUCAF RCA negotiated a security arrangement with an armed group, the UnitΓ© pour la paix en Centrafrique (Union for Peace in the Central African Republic, or UPC).hrough this tacit agreement, UPC leaders committed to secure SUCAF RCAβs factory and sugar cane fields and to ensure free movement on key roadways necessary for the provision of supplies. SUCAF RCA also secured UPC support in trying to assure the companyβs monopoly on sugar distribution in several prefectures, including through the forced seizure of smuggled sugar, particularly from Sudan.

Comment on negative impacts for local communities | Allegations have emerged against French food and beverage company, Castel Group, and its subsidiary Sucrerie Africaine de Centrafrique (SUCAF RCA). The claims suggest that for over six years, SUCAF RCA financially and logistically supported the violent armed group, Union for Peace in the Central African Republic (UPC), despite being aware of the group's involvement in human rights abuses, including mass killings and child soldier recruitment. The support allegedly helped maintain the company's monopoly on sugar distribution in several regions. The Sentry, which investigated the matter, states that despite knowledge of these atrocities, Castel Group continued to provide support to the group, thus fueling conflict in the Central African Republic. If these allegations are proven, Castel Group could face significant legal and reputational consequences.
