In 2005, Rio Tinto won the public tender called by the Peruvian government, to explore and analyze the possibility of developing the mining concession. On January 31, 2006 signed the concession contract and based Rio Tinto Minera Peru SAC Limited (Rio Tinto-La Granja) Project Management, a company owned by Rio Tinto 100%.
