According to Source 12, they were motivated to sell their land at low prices due to the conflict present in the area. Additionally, the same source asserts that at some point in the "purchasing chain" of the land holdings, they belonged to paramilitary leaders of the region that came from Boyacá and Valle del Cauca. They sold the plots afterwards to the Cargill subsidiaries for a way too much higher price than the initial agreement.

According to some neighbors of the plantation complex, the company Colombia Agro is doing aerial aspersion of the herbicide Paraquat, which is supposed to be used only manually. There is an ongoing process on this matter. There was contamination of water sources and the neighbor holdings.
