Zambia Sugar Plc supplies a variety of services including schooling, churches, and clinics and has a much lauded HIV workplace policy. It even has its own professional soccer stadium. All workers are housed on the plantation, and from anecdotal reports, the 4,000 seasonal workers appear to be paid well, quite a bit above national averages. Still, according to OI, there are not many other benefits for the community: There are some benefits in terms of economic spin-offs and numerous outgrower schemes (on titled land), but the vast majority of contracts are awarded to non-local businesses
