The Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture had signed an agreement with the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture in the context of the Sudanese Egyptian Protocol of Cooperation between the two countries.
The intention is to develop one million acres of the famous Gezira Scheme in the Sudan i.e. half of the total area of the Scheme (404685 hectares). Additional 40568 hectares for Egyptian small-holders. The Sudanese government have reserved the land for Egyptian small-holders (each small-holder will be allocated 4hectares) - deal ID 4572).

Strong protest by Sudanese might have led to the abolishing of the plan to develop one million acres of the famous Gezira Scheme (404685hectares). Egyptian Smallholder Scheme (40568hectares) was proposed in 2014 (Deal ID 4572).
Publications after 2014 mention that the Gezira Scheme has failed, despite plans supported by the World Bank for privatisation. No large-scale operation by Egyptian actors.
