As part of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a project, SAHRA (South African Heritage Resources Agency) is being consulted to ensure the project complies with heritage regulations. If the project is selected to move forward, they will apply for the necessary permits to carefully remove or deal with a Stone Age site that might be affected by the development.

The Ilanga-1 CSP Plant may impact the environment through habitat disruption, high water use, and emissions during construction. Social concerns include land displacement and uneven benefits. Waste management and thermal fluid handling pose additional risks.
