The intention and the procedures for the Central Eléctrica da Namaacha (CEN) project began in 2018. In that year, development rights for the wind farm were granted to EleQtra, which is one of the companies involved in the project. Since then, various planning and permitting phases have taken place, culminating in the formal concession of the project to Globeleq and Source Energia in August 2024.
