As a requirement for the environmental licensing process, civil society submitted inquiries about the project through the State Institute of Environmental Affairs of Mato Grosso do Sul (IMASUL). These questions were answered by the company. The company also held a public hearing in the municipality of Inocência. However, there was no direct consultation with the affected population, and therefore, the instrument used by the company is limited.

Negative impacts for local communities

Comment on negative impacts for local communities
So far, no negative impacts have been reported for the communities living near the project. However, it is important to highlight two points: 1) The Environmental Impact Report (RIMA) submitted by the company to the State Institute of Environmental Affairs of Mato Grosso do Sul (IMASUL) outlines environmental impacts, such as vegetation suppression. Additionally, part of the Direct Influence Area outlined in the project includes the Municipal Environmental Protection Area of the Sucuriú River Basin. Therefore, it is likely that the project will have some environmental impact. 2) The project site is an area of expansion for eucalyptus cultivation, which began in 2009 and is growing rapidly. While reported impacts are currently localized, there are larger initiatives such as the Forum for Addressing Eucalyptus Impacts, which is scheduled to be launched in 2024.
