In 2011, it was the largest wind farm to be bid into the first round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP) — a government initiative to increase the country’s renewable energy production, and channel private investment and expertise into the sector. In 2014, Cookhouse became the first wind farm to be connected to the transmission system, supplying renewable energy under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement with South Africa’s power public utility, Eskom.
