The Project is designed to supply power to the Nepalese grid. Earlier it used to be called Upper Seti Storage HEP so some document like EIA is older and has Upper Seti Storage HEP in its name. The main components of the project includes : Dam and spillway - a 140 m high concrete gravity dam with a crest length of 175 m will be constructed on the Seti River, A reservoir with a total surface area of 7.26 km2 at FSL (EL 415 m) will be created. The waterway- a 7.4 m in diameter by 1,203 m long headrace tunnel will be constructed on the right bank for the reservoir. A 190 m long tailrace tunnel will be constructed to discharge the flow used for power generation back into the Seti River. An underground powerhouse will be constructed 6 km downstream of the dam. Two permanent access roads (totalling 7.3 km) and a number of temporary access roads will be constructed in the Project site.

Based on an article on May 2017, As of Thursday, Rs330 million had been distributed to 162 landowners. Houses, cattle sheds, crops and trees stood on the land taken over by the project. The Finance Ministry has allotted Rs420 million for land compensation in the budget for this fiscal year. Feb 25, 2024: Tanahun hydropower project, the second storage project of the country, has witnessed 51.44 percent of its physical progress. Since the commencement of its construction five years ago, the 140 MW project being constructed in Rishing Rural Municipality-1 of Tanahun District has achieved progress of around 50 percent of its construction work. The CDC has decided the compensation amount based on the type, location and quality of the affected land which is much higher than government Land Revenue Office rates such as 1.75 to 260 times higher in access road and camp site area and more than 15 to 45 times higher in reservoir area, and 9.5 to 20 times in the Betini and Banchare area.
