mangrove species of Rhizophora
In 2008 and 2009, the mangrove restoration project of the Senegalese NGO Oceanium planted more than 40 million mangrove seedlings in the Saloum Delta and along the Casamance River.
In 2006, Océanium began testing mangrove reforestation with Rhizophora mangrove species. 65,000 plants were thus planted with the help of the population of Tobor, in Casamance. Neighboring villages, interested in the initiative, continued the plantations in 2007, involving 500,000 plants and about ten villages. In 2008, 6,000,000 plants were planted in Casamance. In 2009, the initiative was expanded to Sine-Saloum. Thus, 34.7 million propagules were planted by 328 villag

Part of the project was registered with the CDM, but later, in 2013, the project proponent decided to switch to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). As a result, the CDM validation process was halted, and the entire project was transferred to VCS certification
Comment on carbon sequestration/offsetting
In 2013, the project decided to switch its certification from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). Although a part of the project was initially registered under the CDM, it was decided to transfer the entire project to VCS, halting the CDM validation process.
