The project is to accelerate the resettlement of mangroves in areas where it does not happen spontaneously, by planting mangrove species of Rhizophora in dangerous areas.

The project is implemented on lands within the national domain of Senegal. In terms of carbon ownership, those who can claim the benefit of carbon revenues are either the landowners (the Senegalese State) or those who have rights over the trees within the project's boundaries.

In 2006, Océanium began testing mangrove reforestation with Rhizophora mangrove species. The five-year “Conservation of the Sierra Leone Western Area Peninsula Forest Reserve (WAPFR)” Project has commenced its operation in the second quarter of 2009.
