60 people from the nearby village were employed as grass cutters, security guards and for washing panels (Kaur 2022). 1000 employments were promised (Kaur 2022). Interviewees explained that the jobs were mostly unskilled, low wage construction jobs and further, that those jobs being temporary, represented only a short-term benefit, not compensating for the impact of land loss. According to the respondents the low wages that they earned from construction work was not enough to provide a sustainable living for a family, or fulfil their basic needs (Yenneti & Day 2016:40).
