In 2011, Indian conglomerate Tata Chemicals, announced that its Mozambican subsidiary, Grown Energy Zambeze Limitada, would invest US$320 million to develop an ethanol plant and sugar cane plantations on 24,000 ha of land it had acquired in Chemba, Sofala Province.
