In 2006 the Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production Contract No 019 of 2006 Samán was signed between the National Hydrocarbons Agency -ANH- attached to the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the companies: Hocol SA, (a company organized under the laws of the Cayman Islands, with a branch in Colombia, which in turn was acquired by Grupo Empresarial Ecopetrol in 2009) and Perenco Oil and Gas Colombia Limited (a company organized under the laws of France, with a branch in Colombia). Hocol SA is the operator of the contract, which has a duration of 6 years for exploration and 24 years for the exploitation phase. The contracted area is 240,239 hectares in the departments of Bolivar, Sucre and Magdalena.
