The barite mine was closed in December 2009 by Chiapas state for ecological damages. Blackfire company wants to recevie a compensation of US$ 800 millions for what it could have earned from the exploitation of the mine, under clauses of NAFTA treaty chapter 11. Overall comment

Overall comment
Import of error check - Coordinator's overview comment: Issue with source. Review all comments. Import of error check - Reviewer's overview comment: The issue is about the state of the litigation between Blackfire company and the state of Chiapas (and perhaps Mexico). REMA (the Mexican Network of People Affected by Mining) is demanding that the Mexican Federal Government act immediately to cancel all mining concessions given to Blackfire, and to expel the company from Mexico for violating fundamental human rights. The company would not have respected its infrastructures promises to peasants whose territory was affected by mine exploitation. It would have caused strong ecological damages, for what Chiapas government closed the mine. It would have been implicated in the murder of an environmental activist, Mariano Abarca Roblero, in November 2009 (for which workers of the mine have been arrested and then released). (The mayor of Chicomuselo, accused of corruption by Blackfire is implicated too in the murder.)
