Comment on negative impacts for local communities
In August 2016, Chinese workers building the toll highway in the vicinity of Van Oers saw a herd of dying cattle. They immediately alerted the villagers of Dobur. When I arrived at the scene of the tragedy, I realized that it was indeed my 50 head of oxen in search of food. We contacted a veterinarian who, after an autopsy, revealed that they had been grazing on grass tainted with pesticides. Supported by a member of the World Civil Forum, I am still running after this case to see that justice is done. But we are in a country where dialogue does not oblige you to directly attack the agribusiness under the pretext that our daughters and sons are losing their jobs. I am passive in the face of this painful affair and disoriented (Interview: Paysande Dobour, village hamlet adjacent to the market gardening perimeter of Van Oers, 15 / 09 / 17)
