One of the first groups to form was the Committee in Defense of Life and Peace of San Rafael las Flores, which together with the Madre Selva Collective commissioned an analysis of the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) by independent experts who found serious deficiencies and concluded that it should not be approved. Also, beginning in 2010, the broad resistance movement, with the support of the Diocesan Commission in Defense of Nature (CODIDENA), organized protests, sit-ins, and marches.
