In Nambak the Sino-Lao Chilan Rubber Development Company was granted a 50-year concession in 2004, arriving in Ban Namai in 2006 to inform villagers and to start converting the leased upland. Existing customary rights were erased in this process as both Tai-Lue but mostly Khmu villagers were dispossessed of their upland holdings.
