Comment on consultation of local community
The presence of the sugar factories in the area began in 2001, in a violent way. That year, the Ministry of Agriculture and the police evicted small farmers from the village of Llamipe, which was growing sugar for its own consumption. Since then, the sugar cane plantations expanded progressively, a practice that continued in 2006 with the arrival of the Gloria Group with the Compania agroinsutrial casa grande. The farmers claim that land purchases were irregular and in some cases they did not even pay for the land. Many peasants were displaced and claim that they are denied the right over water.
