In April 2010, before the national elections when land grabbing started to take off with domestic Myanmar companies, the Vietnamese and Myanmar government signed agreements in twelve key investment areas in Myanmar after a bilateral visit. The 120,000-acre rubber concession located between Taungup Township and Ma Ei Sub-Township in southern Rakhine State followed the opening of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam in Myanmar, as well as the launch of direct flights from Hanoi to Yangon
