The first phase of the Turkwel Project was completed more than 15 years ago, but the second phase which comprises the irrigation project stalled. Buy-in from Indian government after 2013.

Comment on contract farming

20000 ha designated for contract farming (see comment above).Farmers at an irrigation scheme in West Pokot County have benefited from farm inputs to boost crop production as alternative source of income to livestock rearing. The 225 farmers at Wei Wei irrigation scheme have received 200 bags of fertilizer from Mea Limited in an initiative by the county to attain food security in famine prone region caused by recurrent drought.
