The Dekel-Oil installation was preceded by an environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) as required by Ivorian law. This procedure involves the participation of the population. However, the firm responsible for carrying out the ESIA worked in English, even though the populations are francophone. In addition, the interprète was an employee of Dekel-Oil.
