In March 2004, the municipality of Chongqing, in Sichuan, and the government of Laos signed a deal to jointly build a 5,000-ha agricultural park in Laos where Chinese corporations would produce grains and fish products for export to China and other parts of Asia. Some US$5m were invested in the project.
