Comment on negative impacts for local communities
Main reason for the suspension of development in the are is the clearing of forests without due permit and some of the forests are home to Orangutans. A resident also claims that the blackish water of Pari River is due to wastes from the plantation. Entry of the company also threatened the land management and governance when forests, which are communal in ownership, was subdivided by individuals and sold or released to the company. *In using the Miko (hazardous waste), PT DWK was suspected of not having a permit, and violating Law No. 32 of 2009 concerning Protection and Management of the Environment. Waste was allowed to flow polluting the tributaries and the Pari River.
