Comment on implementation status
Although the project was initially approved and land rights were acquired, it has faced a series of legal challenges and community opposition that have led to its suspension. In March 2023, the Lamu County government annulled the project due to failures in adhering to resettlement agreements and compensation for affected families. This decision followed pressure from community groups arguing that their rights were not respected and that adequate consultation had not taken place. After that, there has been a recent development regarding the Lamu Wind Project. A court ruling has allowed the project to proceed under certain conditions. No information has yet been found on whether the project is progressing or not.
