The Sukulu Phosphate Mining Project has faced several challenges since its inception. In 2021, the project was halted due to a lack of funding from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, raising doubts about its long-term viability. Although there was an attempt to restart production in July 2023, this effort lasted only a week before the project was once again halted, causing concern among local leaders and the district's population. Additionally, the project has been entangled in legal controversies and corruption issues, further complicating its progress.
