Company website posted a article stating some 200 residents of Manicani Island in Guiuan, Eastern Samar have expressed their full support to the position of President Rodrigo Duterte that all mining firms should strictly practice responsible mining. Permit renewal requested by a mining company has the Church and many residents worrying about the possibility of further destroying the environment of Manicani, a small island off Eastern Samar.
However, CBCP posted a different picture as Residents organized several marches and rallies under the movement Protect Manicani Island Inc. (PROMISI), joined by some local church leaders. They called for the permanent closure of any mining operation in the island claiming that mining does not bring economic progress to the area but has damaged farms, sources of water, and marine life
